As a Nigerian-born immigrant that has lived in the US I am an aspiring arts administrator passionate about social impact initiatives. I have experience adapting to a variety of communities. I grew up in Baltimore within a heavily diverse environment, but in high school, I moved to a predominantly white community in West Michigan. After graduating from high school, I enrolled at the University of Michigan where I became a resident advisor. This experience strengthened my ability to understand people from differing social identities, and further my understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion. I have learned to overcome preconceived notions and engage in conversations with my peers to learn about their cultures and experiences. I aim to strengthen my understanding of the social and music customs within both the U.S. and Nigeria.
ImmiHealth is doing some exciting stuff as many migrants, refugees, and asylums need support in navigating healthcare in foreign countries like the United States. Growing initially, we rarely visited the doctor because our family did not have the resources for it. When my little sister Timi was born we found out shortly after she had diabetes. Thankfully, my parents by then understood the resources available to them and were in a better place finically to support her medical costs. Life can and will throw unexpected curveballs at you so it is best to always be equipped to protect yourself and your family as one medical bill could be detrimental to someone's life.
